The recent announcement by the UK National Screening Committee on prostate cancer screening has understandably resulted in a national debate about a validated population based screening programme for men.
At Lotus Healthcare, we fully appreciate the concerns this has resulted amongst men, and relatives, who may be anxious about access to the screening tests.
We offer the standard PSA test, and where this is above a certain threshold, refer for the Stockholm 3 test.
The Stockholm 3 test is a useful risk stratification test for the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
This test is recommended for men age 45-74 years with the additional benefits of:
- Early detection of prostate cancer
- Reduces unnecessary MRI scan and biopsy
- Increased specificity and accuracy.
The risk of prostate cancer is also increased in men who have a close family member with a history of breast or ovarian cancer.
The recommended screening tests are the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene tests.
At Lotus Healthcare, we offer a consultation to explore your concerns , address any worrying symptoms ,and offer appropriate diagnostic tests after undergoing an informed decision making process.
In case of any abnormal results, we are able to refer for a specialist opinion without delay.
